20% Mannitol Solution acts as a osmotic diuretic. When given intravenously, is excreted in glomerular filltrate rapidly. It increases renal blood flow & glomerular hydrostatic pressure. Because of its rapidity of excretion it exceeds the reabsorption capacity of the tubule & the excess appears in the urine accompanied by an increased volume of water.
