Engenase is L-asparaginase inj. While observing the qualitative difference between normal cells and those from childhood lymphoblastic leukemia, the leukemia cells are deficient in L-asparagine synthetase and depend on the supply of L-asparagine from the medium (Blood). The enzyme L-asparaginase (from E. coil) degrades L-asparagine to L-aspartic acid, depriving leukemic cells of an essential metabolite and ultimately may lead to cell death."
